Smart tachograph version 2 GeoTracer is ready!
The European Commission considers that all vehicles covered by the relaxation (newly registered from 21 August 2023 to 31 December 2023) should be retrofitted to G2V2 by 18 August 2025. And therefore also those who, after this date, would only carry out national transport.
GeoTracer is fully ready for this transition. It is very important for our existing customers to notify us when a TACHO overhang occurs, so we can guarantee that your GeoTracer remote tacho solution will continue to work seamlessly.
When is the best time to contact us:
• You install a new Tacho GEN2 in your existing vehicle
• You have your existing Tacho remote download system converted into a new truck with TACHOGEN2
• A compatible system is already installed for new trucks.

Vehicles registered for the first time from 21 August 2023 must be equipped with the smart tachograph version 2. In addition, there is a mandatory retrofit for vehicles equipped with older tachographs used for international transport:
From 1 January 2025, all analogue or "old" digital tachographs must be replaced by the smart tachograph version 2;
From 18 August 2025, all smart tachographs version 1 must be replaced by the smart tachograph version 2.
Finally, from 1 July 2026, the driving and rest periods stipulated in Regulation 561/2006 will also apply to all vehicles with a GVW of more than 2.5 tonnes if they are used in international transport.
To this end, these vehicles must also be equipped with a version 2 smart tachograph from this date.
And yes, there may be fines if you don't have a smart tacho 2 in your vehicle. Since 1 January 2025 (or 19 August 2025), tachographs in vehicles that drive internationally must also have a smart tacho 2. Failure to comply with this obligation may result in fines and stricter controls. Make sure you're aware of these changes to avoid any issues! 🚚📊
Improved new features in GeoFleet!
This new tachograph has some additional functionalities compared to the first generation (smart tacho 1):
Vehicle type registration: During installation, the tachograph records whether it is a truck or a bus.
Automatic border crossing registration: This eliminates the need to stop at border crossings.
