The Transition to 4G in the Telematics Industry: A Revolution on Wheels

Technology is constantly evolving, and networks are no exception. As we prepare for the transition from 2G to the 4G network, we at GeoTracer are ready. As a leading telematics company, we are taking on this challenge that is beyond our control. In this blog, we will discuss what this necessary transition means for our business and how we will guide and support our customers smoothly and effectively through this change.

What's happening and why?

Networks around the world are gradually switching from older 2G networks to faster and more efficient 4G networks. This is a decision that is made by telecom operators and governments, and that we as GeoTracer cannot change. However, it does mean that the infrastructure that many of our Track and Trace devices currently use will no longer be available by 2027 in Belgium. In other European country's this transition possibly will take place sooner.

What does this mean for GeoTracer and its customers:

Better Performance and Reliability: While the transition presents challenges for us, the transition to 4G also offers benefits such as faster data transfer and a more stable connection. This translates into more accurate and reliable tracking information. The new hardware we use for 4G is also fully set up to do asset management and/or temperature registration via BLE technology.

How are we going to guide our customers?

The transition to 4G may seem complex for some customers, but we at GeoTracer are here to make this process as smooth as possible .

Here's how we're going to do that:

  1. Staged Migration: To minimize disruptions, we will address a staged migration. This means that we don't convert everything at once, but step by step, so that our customers can adapt to the new systems without interrupting their business operations.
  2. Efficiency: We understand that cost is an important factor. That's why we offer affordable upgrade options for our existing customers. This ensures that the transition to 4G is achievable for everyone.
  3. Feedback and Adjustments: We will continuously collect feedback from our customers to ensure that the transition process goes smoothly. Based on this feedback, we can adjust and improve our approach where necessary.

Our Mission: Transition to 4G by 2027

The transition from 2G to 4G networks is a necessary change that is beyond our control, but one that we must embrace in order to continue to make progress. It gives us the opportunity to offer even better and more reliable services, and we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. We stand ready to guide our customers through this change and ensure they benefit from the enhanced performance and functionalities of 4G.
